Pest Minds Story 6

“I have been in the pest management industry for 7 years exclusively working for big companies. After several years I started to struggle with reconciling the quality of my work with the quantity expected. I felt like a failure if I had not given the customer 110%.

I started to set myself unrealistic targets and work obscene hours to try and deliver what I thought was the service that the customer deserved. It became overwhelming and my mental health took a steep decline.

At the peak of my depression, I went to see my GP. Through a combination of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and medication (SSRIs) I was able to start tempering my own thoughts of inadequacy.

We talk often about how pest issues require multiple approaches to control them (integrated pest management), the same applies to the pickle we get our minds into sometimes. Speaking up is not giving in.”
